TERMS OF USE

Terms of use

The agreement between you and ReadHalo when you use it.

In effect from

Who you’re agreeing with

These terms are an agreement between you and Gaurav Thakur, an individual based in India, who runs ReadHalo (“we”, “us”). Address: Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. By using ReadHalo you accept them. The privacy policy explains how we handle your data.

Questions about these terms: support@readhalo.com.

Who can use ReadHalo

You must be 18 or older to use ReadHalo.

The service

ReadHalo reads web pages aloud in Chrome and highlights each word as it’s spoken. Device voices are free and need no account. Premium voices need an account and an internet connection.

How well a page is read depends on the page and your computer. Some pages can’t be read, and voices may mispronounce words. ReadHalo is a digital service; nothing is shipped.

We may change, add or remove features. Premium voices depend on our service and DeepInfra, so they can sometimes be unavailable or paused. A device voice keeps reading when they are.

Your account

Sign in with an email address you control, and don’t share your sign-in codes. You’re responsible for what happens in your account. Premium belongs to your account, in every browser you sign in to with it.

Using it fairly

Don’t:

  • use ReadHalo on content you aren’t allowed to access;
  • get around the listening allowances or other limits, for example with extra accounts;
  • call our voice service other than through ReadHalo, or resell access to it;
  • interfere with the service or other people’s use of it.

Free listening and Premium

Each account gets free listening every calendar month with Natural voices while it doesn’t have Premium. It needs no card, doesn’t turn into a paid subscription and doesn’t roll over. Each person gets one free allowance. We may pause free listening for a while when the service is busy.

Premium is ₹149 a month, paid in Indian rupees through Razorpay. Checkout shows the amount before you pay. Premium starts once the payment is confirmed, and renews every month until you cancel.

About 15 hours a month with Natural voices. Your allowance is shared across the browsers you sign in to. Unused listening doesn’t roll over. Premium voices use your monthly allowance as they generate audio, at different rates for different voices. This includes audio ReadHalo prepares ahead and requests that fail after they start. Replaying audio saved in this browser doesn’t use more of your allowance while your access lasts. See how the listening allowance works.

If the price changes, we’ll tell you before you’re charged the new price.

With Premium you can also add listening: a one-time purchase at the price checkout shows, paid in Indian rupees through Razorpay. It doesn’t renew. Extra listening is used after your monthly allowance runs out, lasts a year from the day you buy it, and any that’s left after a year expires. It keeps working if Premium ends before then.

Cancelling and refunds

Cancel at any time from Manage account. Premium stays until the end of the month you paid for. We don’t refund part of a month. We refund duplicate or accidental charges reported within 7 days. A refund ends the Premium that payment paid for; a dispute pauses Premium from that subscription and cancels its renewal. Extra listening is refunded in full within 7 days of buying it if none of it has been used, and not once any has; a full refund or a dispute removes what’s left of it. The details are on refunds and cancellation.

Ending your use

You can stop using ReadHalo at any time, and delete your account. Deleting it ends Premium straight away, including any time left, and doesn’t refund it. Cancel your subscription first.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. If we close your account when you haven’t broken them, we’ll refund the unused part of your paid month.

Pages and audio

ReadHalo reads pages you open; it doesn’t give you any rights to them. Premium audio is made for your own listening. ReadHalo, its design and its software belong to us.

Our responsibility

We work to keep ReadHalo running and accurate, but we provide it as it is. We don’t promise it will always be available, read every page, or pronounce everything correctly.

As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer protection law.

Law and disputes

If something goes wrong, email support@readhalo.com first and we’ll try to sort it out.

These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts at Bengaluru have jurisdiction, without limiting your right to bring a consumer complaint where you live.

Changes

When we change these terms, we’ll post the new version here with a new date at the top. If you don’t agree with a change, cancel and stop using ReadHalo.
